First project of 2010 is a music video for Puma for The Bangz song “Found My Swag”. It features the New Boyz and all the hottest dancers in the jerk movement coming out of Los Angeles. Skinny jeans, bright 80’s colors, pop art, and the infamous new dance “the jerk”. Directed by the homie Catero Colbert we were able to create graphic backdrops and subtle animations to add to the color palette. A strictly performance based video we were happy to bring some added style to the piece.

October has found Secret History Directing a dope music video with Buildestroy focusing on the Art Direction and Production Design for One Block Radius - “Broke Ass Holiday.” We got to make some insane sets that spun around to reveal 3 different rooms in one. We also made some of the craziest props you could imagine: the Duct Tape folding chair, a Fed Ex loveseat, a milkcrate bed with bubble wrap blankets and Fed Ex pillows, a cigar box bass guitar and other utterly amazingly broke objects. Directed by Secret History with design, color, and VFX touches by Buildestroy and edited by Crown Editorial.

The other music video is for Juakali, a Trini roots reggae vocalist who often sings and chats over Dub Step beats. We are doing a greenscreen shoot, some steady cam shoots, and a bunch of timelapses. We also shot his live performance at the Echo a few months back. Track is called “Dem City” and we’ve got some dope collaborations involved on this one. We shot with all SLR cameras: Canon 5D, 7D, and a 20D and utilized as much in camera stylization as possible before going into post. Directed by Secret History with with VFX and 3D by Buildestroy. Cinematography by August Thurmer. More on this project soon.
We also animated DVD graphics and designed packaging for Tuff City Styles new DVD about their shop in the Bronx. Graffiti, tattoos, airbrush, music, and lifestyle all 100% real New York originals. DVD features footage of our Tuff City fam - CES, YES2, MED, TKID, COPE, SERVE, SEEN, IZ the WIZ, JADAKISS, KAY SLAY, and many more legends of hip hop. We premiered it at The World’s Biggest Tattoo Show in Vegas, the hotel we stayed at kept playing the 702 Scene show package we did. I also made a commercial for them to air in NY and the web.

Secret History directed and Buildestroy animated music video for the Brick Boys “It’s the Game” for the homies: Ervin EP Pope and PD. We shot in a Malibu mansion with Phantoms and Lambos and then all over Watts. Brick Boys are coming from Nickerson Gardens and we had a real good time shooting there and got some real exclusive and hard to get footage. The song is real life experiences about the game and different aspects of it and we bring the lyrics to life in a cool way on this one. The video will premiere on DJ Skee’s Skee.tv in the next few weeks check for it.

Music video for 2 time Grammy winning Gospel group Mary Mary. This one is our first entirely live action video with no real FX and the graphics were incorporated into the shoot practically on the LCDs. We focused on the girls looking beautiful and creating a really fun and spirited fashion show.
Secret History directs this narrative based epic video for unsigned artist Ameish. Set in a typical shallow LA gallery environment Ameish leads us into 3 very different but similar realities through a photography exhibition that comes to life. A very different approach from our past music videos we took a very realistic approach to the FX that creates a very dramatic mood for the gritty vignettes revealed by Ameish’s lyrics. Shot entirely on 35mm and 16mm film we gave this one a very cinematic feel.
Another greenscreen burner for Paris. This one takes place in a virtual Bay Area as Paris leads the revolution. Paris takes hypocritical rappers, police, politicians, news networks and anyone in his way to court in this one. A call to action that was released in 2008 before the elections. It went on MTV Jams on election day. Follow P-Dog as he leads his hard truth mob all the way to the doors of the White House.
